In the 6 years that I have been investing, there are so many events that happened, Brexit, two contested US elections, a pandemic, riots, storming of the Capitol, and now a war.
If you had invested in the S&P 500 $SPX500 when I started 6 years ago, you would have doubled your money today. Many people are afraid of the noise and they don't invest. This is wrong. We need to know how to navigate the noise, not avoid it.
What you need to know first is compound interest. Consistent investment over the long-term can make you a fortune. Depending on how much time you have to do research, you can aim for higher returns.
Maybe you will say that you will just take your money away temporarily because of some event. But it is impossible to successfully time the market over the long-term. If you miss the 5 best days in 20 years in the markets, your returns would fall by 40% and very often these 5 best days are close to the 5 worst days.
Also, avoid looking at your portfolio every day and reading/watching the news about the stock market.
